Marketing is not an act of God; it is the result of a gradual process. Marketing is enriched by the development of humanity.
The word "marketing" was first used in America in 1906-1911. In recent times, the popularity and acceptance of marketing has been steadily increasing.
The history of marketing development is briefly described below.
1. The age of self-sufficiency
In the early days of mankind, every human being was self-sufficient. They produce their own consumer products.
At that time, their needs were limited. They don't have a marketing product that meets their needs.
Therefore, there is no need to market a product.
2. The era of exchange
Finally we see that people get the most out of what they consume. They then decided to market their product.
But then there was no money for currency. So barter is the barter system they choose.
The barter system is the direct exchange of goods or services for other goods or services without using any medium of exchange.
Suddenly the age of the stock market entered and was driven forward by marketing.
3. Age of production
The era of production is called 1860-1920 . This era usually focuses on production.
It is called the age of production because the company's main priority is to produce a lot and reduce costs by producing large quantities.
Companies believe that trade can be facilitated by reducing production costs. So they pass the product on to customers at a lower price.
4. Age of sales
This is another important era of marketing. The age of marketing promotes their products for more sales and they earn more money.
From the beginning of the 20th century, from 1920 to 1950 , this is the most important moment of the beginning of the sales era.
Currently, business competition is getting tougher and marketing is shifting to sales. Today, communication , advertising and branding are becoming increasingly important as companies must sell higher volumes of production in growing markets with increasingly fierce competition.
Today, most companies also practice the concept of selling. The end result of this concept is the goal of selling what they produce, not what the market demands.
5. The age of marketing
The era of marketing began in 1950 .
From this moment on, consumer needs become more important and consumers become more aware. In this situation, marketers change their marketing policies and strategies. This is the key to achieving the goals of the selling company's organization.
It helps business organizations to be more efficient than their competitors in building, distributing and communicating with selected target customers.
The marketing concept is based on four pillars: target market, customer needs, integrated marketing and profitability.
6. The era of social marketing
The era of social marketing began in the 1970s . At that time, social marketing was a marketing system that thought first about corporate profits, then about the wants, needs and well-being of society.
Marketing organizations always try to make products that are supposed to be good and beneficial to society and the environment.
In this period, companies were given more importance to take into accountthe environment , territory and business.
7. The era of relationship marketing
The era of relationship marketing began in 1990 .
Nowadays the focus is on group advertising and new ways of communication between marketers and customers.
The key elements of a successful customer-brand relationship are communication , sharing and building trust to create authentic customer relationships.
In this era, marketers must first look within themselves to build good relationships with customers. If they can learn everything about themselves, they can build a great product or service to be successful.
8. The age of mobile or social media marketing
Currently, it is the era of mobile phones or social networks. This era began in 2010 .
Mobile is now the future of marketing, but the mobile age has arrived. If you haven't implemented a mobile marketing strategy in your business , you're one step away!
Social networks are another important marketing activity. The main social networks are Facebook , Twitter , YouTube , Yahoo , Google Plus , etc.
In short, the historical development of marketing has moved from the era of self-sufficiency, exchange and production to the current era of relationships and social networks.
